Painted in 1974 during a period when he was using more subdue colours and in my opinion a time when his classic outback style was coming into its own and possibly at its best.
It is nearly identical to the painting “Departing Coach” that appears on page 108 of his 1977 Biography by Eugene Lumbers called - The Art of Pro Hart
The painting first came into my possession in 1994, but sadly it has come time to let this painting go to a new owner. Probably not an ideal time to sell, but a good time to buy from your point of view and I need the funds!
If this painting was hanging in your local gallery it would take pride of place and be valued somewhere between $20000 and $30000 reflecting it’s true value. Selling under pressure I have to be more realistic about the asking price and $15500 reflects that. You may be able to find paintings of similar sizes going for less than that, but few will be of this quality. All things considered, this is the happy medium between the long term average and the bargain basement price.
As with any art purchase of this size, it is ideal to see it for yourself, so I will be happy to organise a date when the painting will be available in Sydney to be viewed for interested buyers. With prior arrangement, there is also the option to view the painting near Nowra where it currently hangs. We can also organise further photos of your choice, the photo here does seem to capture it particularly well but we would be happy to take further photos.
Once purchased, I will be happy to arrange shipping or pick up in person from Nowra, Sydney, Brisbane or the Gold Coast. Shipping will either be via dedicated art handlers or with a premium courier of your choice and will be in addition to the sale. I will insist that shipping insurance be taken out where it is available.
Originally, the painting did come with a letter from either the Hart family or a gallery in Canberra verifying the authenticity of the painting, however at the time of writing this, we think this letter seems to have been lost through the intervening years. However, I’m sure the authenticity can be verified by a suitable expert as required.
I am open to negotiation, in fact I have already received offers for the painting. So if you are interested in the painting, call me and make an offer to be in the running. If you want to avoid all that, simply offer the asking price and it will be yours. Either way - be quick, time is running out!
