Model T, Studebaker, Camry, Mustang, Wrangler, Tundra, F150, Land Rover. Different speeds, sizes, and features, and the "hunting" goes on, but who will dare say the automobile has failed? They've been at auto-making for a lot longer than the year or so UMPC makers have had. I'm as impatient as the next person, but come on! You don't think two pounds is light for a computer? My 12" tablet is twice as heavy as my 7" UMPC, and the tablet is what gets left at home.

There are people in this world who choose not use any computer or even electricity. Some never try to learn to drive. I can't comprehend it, but this is ok. I accept that UMPCs aren't for everyone, but I would hope that others realize that they work for many of us. Fortunately, your last four words give me a little hope.

This post was fantastic! It hit me at the right time because I was feeling strange for all of a sudden becoming addicted to reading the reviews and impressions of the umpc addicts. All the blogs, the videos, I can't get enough. I feel like I'm living out some male, primal urge for gadgetry vicariously through you guys. I can't afford such a habit, and I can't imagine taking it to a level where I had such good connections to get such fun toys, but it's a blast to follow.

It's also odd that I've still stuck with basically the same opinion as this blog. I want a tablet in the near future, but I can't figure out where a umpc currently falls in line even with my admittedly heavy computer usage. The slot between smart phone and a normal, small tablet seems to be filled with a lot of machines that don't do either function that well. They sort of fake both and make that their forte. Meantime, even the powerful little machines seem sort of bloated with different versions of Windows on them though I see why that's preferable for program compatibility.

I hate to say it, but I think the underpowered, overpriced iPhone has done more to make inroads with the public for a multi-featured portable device in a few months, than umpc/origami has done in several years.

Anyhow, I hope both this blog and all the others I've come to really enjoy keep up the interesting work!

Thanks for your comments guys !
Yes, I should add (as everyone does) it comes down to personal taste, I know people do seem to be happy with those smaller screens. (4.5” are you sure? – next time I walk past a Sony embassy I’ll check one out). But you know, I had a look at a mini Asus U1A or whatever it was - it had about 11.1" of screen or was it 10in, I thought 'that would be big enough... just'. 7in maybe, but then really it becomes limited to being just a internet, email/messaging and mapping device for me, no longer good for the type of work I do, and since either way I’m carrying a bag for it, well…

Hmmm, my imagination is pretty good, but I suppose I ought to give one of these UMPC’s a fair go before I can be more definitive with my dismissive-ity.
and thanks again... it's good to know someone has stopped by long enough to read this.

I think people just need to get better eyesight so we can move forward in this industry! Just kidding, but I find the 4.5" screen of the Sony UX easy to use. I have very good eye sight, so that may be one of the reasons. Its funny to see an outsider looking in on our "crazy" world : P

Not so! ;)

After using 7 inch devices now for 4 years, I can say it's just rigth for any kind of computing when mobile.

10 to 12 inch screen device are huge ;)

My "spin cycle" has been more about the need for keyboard or not. Right now build in keyboard is winning so my next target is HTC Shift

Good post about us, hope you join by comments in future too.

Enjoyed that. Thanks!

dont forget though that there isnt going to be just one 'best' umpc, there will be many and thats the beaty of this new market. Like with mobile phones, there will be lots of targeted devices wirh many good one and many bad ones. Hunting doesn't really aplly to this market.
